Singapore only measures 50 kilometres by 26 kilometres. But somehow Singapore always manages to feel a lot bigger. Maybe it is because Singapore has a knack for always being the best.

From having the best airport to the best educational system in the world, Singapore is no stranger to most top 5 lists. Singapore has also recently boasted more memory athletes: Men and women that memorize random pieces of vast information and then recall it in order. One of those memory athletes is Sancy Suraj.

Sancy started his memory journey in 2010 when he starting applying memory techniques to his studies in university. “I got really good at memorisation and recall. Back then I majored in Economics, and i started doing well for all of my papers. I was happy but that soon changed to anger. Angry at the fact that I was not taught these memory techniques in school. I certainly could have used them much earlier,” Said Sancy

That passion then drove Sancy to set up Pinnacle Minds, a memory training company based in Singapore upon graduation. Shortly after that in 2011, Sancy represented Singapore at the World Memory Championships in Guanzhou, China. The World Memory Championships is an organized competition of memory sports in which memory athletes memorize as much information as possible within a given period of time. During that competition Sancy memorized, 176 abstract images in 15 minutes, 98 words in 15 minutes, 480 numbers in 60 minutes, 51 names, and faces in 15 minutes, 460 binary digits in 30 minutes.

Shortly after that competition, Sancy broke the Guinness World Record for the Longest Colour Sequence Memorised. He Memorized 160 colours in 5 minutes 20 seconds and recalled all colours in perfect sequence.

“I was really hooked on memory sports. I wanted to break all the memory records out there but that was going to take alot of time. But that was not as important as passing on the knowledge (Memory techniques) to as much people as I know. So i decided to focus my efforts on Pinnacle Minds,” Sancy.

And passed on he did. Pinnacle Minds was signed by some of the biggest MNC in Singapore and in the world. Some of them includes Singapore Airlines, Nasdaq, GIC, Bank of Singapore, Maybank.

In 2018, Sancy went back into memory sport and broke the Singapore’s record for pi memorisation and recitation. For that record he recited (By writing down) 1505 digits of pi in perfect sequence. He did it in 30 minutes.

When ask whats the next record he plans to break, Sancy replied “I don’t plan ahead for my records. I usually plan to break a record when i feel like it so I cant really say.” Be that as it may, we have a felling that we will seeing more records being broken by Sancy.
